Kamran Khan: Driving Innovation in Petroleum Engineering from Balochistan to the World

Kamran Khan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum and Gas Engineering from the Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS), Pakistan. Demonstrating leadership early in his career, he served as the Head of the Technical Committee for the SPE Quetta Student Chapter and remains an active member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) International. Beyond his academic pursuits, Kamran is deeply engaged in social impact initiatives through his work with the UNDP, the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), and PEAS.

During his undergraduate studies, Kamran conducted pioneering research on the application of nanotechnology in the oil and gas sector—focusing on advanced techniques to enhance hydrocarbon extraction. His research earned him a spot at the prestigious SPE South Asia Student Paper Contest (2016) in Dhanbad, India, where he was the sole representative from Pakistan. Competing against candidates from 17 countries, Kamran secured 1st place, earning widespread recognition from global industry leaders

Following this success, SPE International extended a special invitation to Kamran to present another technical paper at the flagship Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition (ATCE) 2016 in Dubai, where his contributions to reservoir engineering were highly lauded. His research excellence extends to national platforms as well, having clinched top honors at the Annual Technical Conference (ATC) in Islamabad, organized by SPE-PAPG

Expanding his global reach, his paper titled “Unlocking Unconventional Resources of Shale and Tight Gas Reservoirs” was accepted for presentation at the prestigious Global Petroleum Show 2019 in Calgary, Canada, marking yet another milestone in representing Pakistan on the international stage.

In recognition of his outstanding achievements and dedication to advancing petroleum engineering, Kamran has received numerous prestigious accolades:

• Appreciation Award by the Pakistan Army (March 2016)
• SATHA Innovation Award at the 1st Invention to Innovation Summit (2016)
• Balochistan Excellence Award (2016) – the province’s highest civic honor, awarded by the Government of Balochistan
• Nomination for the Pakistan Gold Medal by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC)
