Voice of the Hills: The Musical Journey of Raisa Raisani

By: Ahmed Jahangeer Khan

In the vast cultural landscape of Balochistan, true talent rarely remains hidden—it resonates. Raisa Raisani is one such voice, a remarkable songstress who has poured her soul into the art of music. Blessed with an ethereal, naturally delicate voice, she represents a rare blend of artistic passion and academic dedication.

Born on February 12, 1997, Raisa balances her artistic pursuits with strong academic standing, pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration (BS-BA) at BUITEMS University. Her story is not just about a gifted vocalist, but also about a dedicated student striving for excellence across all fronts.

Early Inspirations & Developing Grace

Raisa’s musical trip began astonishingly early—at just two years old. As her understanding of tone and rhythm grew, so did her devotion to classical and spiritual expressions; alongside contemporary singing, she began reciting Naats and Nohas. Over the years, this passion matured from childhood curiosity into a refined discipline.

Throughout her school and university years, Raisa became a familiar face at musical competitions. Her potential was quickly recognized by her teachers and peers, whose constant encouragement pushed her to step onto larger competitive stages.

Her breakthrough began at the annual BUITEMS Inter-Faculty Competition in 2015, where she secured 3rd position. This was soon followed by another 3rd position title at the All-Balochistan Inter-Varsity Competition, and a runner-up (2nd position) award across Balochistan’s universities.

What sets Raisa apart in today’s music scene is her extraordinary linguistic versatility. She sings fluently across nine languages:

  • Urdu
  • Balochi
  • Pashto
  • Sindhi
  • Punjabi
  • Saraiki
  • Hindi
  • Persian
  • English

Drawing deep artistic inspiration from legendary figures like the renowned Noha Khuwan Nadeem Sarwar and Pakistan’s iconic Sufi singer Abida Parveen, Raisa’s stage presence and vocal depth frequently evoke comparisons to a younger Abida Parveen.

A Defining Moment: Balochistan Talent Hunt 2017

The year 2017 marked a major turning point in Raisa’s career. The Department of Culture, Government of Balochistan, organized the province-wide Balochistan Talent Hunt, bringing together top performers from every district. Urged by her university faculty to compete, Raisa entered a fiercer arena than ever before.

Facing off against the province’s finest emerging talents, her performances electrified both the audience and the jury. She claimed 2nd position overall and was officially honored with the title of Best Female Singer of Balochistan. Critics and audiences alike praised her mellifluous control and energy, which brought a unique dynamism to the stage.

National Recognition & Official Honors

Raisa’s success in Quetta quickly opened doors on the national stage. Chosen to represent her university at major cultural events in Islamabad, she earned widespread acclaim outside her home province.

She had the distinct honor of collaborating with General Nasser Khan Janjua on major Defense Day (September 6th) events, performed across inter-varsity platforms, and recorded two dedicated tracks for Pakistan Television (PTV).

Her achievements have earned substantial recognition from state and provincial authorities:

  • 2017 Provincial Honors: Awarded an official crest of appreciation along with a cash prize of PKR 100,000 by Nawab Muhammad Khan Shahwani, Provincial Minister for S&GAD, Government of Balochistan.
  • National Commendations: Recognized with accolades and honors by senior officials including General Nasser Khan Janjua, General Raja Aftab Khan, and Colonel Siddique for her exceptional artistic contributions.
