For Dr. Lal Muhammad Khan Kakar, this iconic realization was not merely an inspiring quote—it became the guiding philosophy of his life. Emerging from the historic and rich soil of Muslim Bagh, Balochistan, Dr. Lal’s journey is a masterclass in resilience, visionary ambition, and an unwavering commitment to human service.

The Pursuit of Excellence

Dr. Lal’s educational journey began in Muslim Bagh, where he completed his matriculation before moving to Quetta to pursue higher studies at the prestigious Government Science College. Driven by a deep-seated fascination with the medical profession—its nobility, grace, and profound impact on human lives—he earned a seat at Bolan Medical College (BMC), graduating with his MBBS degree in 1993.

Recognizing that true mastery requires continuous learning, Dr. Lal expanded his horizons globally. He traveled to Singapore and the United Kingdom for specialized medical training, refining his skills to international standards before returning home to serve his people.

Pioneering Orthopedic Care in Balochistan

In 1994, Dr. Lal entered public service as a Grade-17 officer, serving diligently through 2004 before establishing his specialized practice as a Spinal and Orthopedic Surgeon.

His return marked a revolutionary turning point for regional healthcare. Dr. Lal holds the distinction of performing the first successful knee and hip replacement surgeries in Quetta—a monumental achievement that saved countless patients from traveling abroad or to distant provinces for critical care. His groundbreaking contributions earned him widespread acclaim and formal recognition from the Pakistan Orthopaedic Association.

Beyond the operating theater, Dr. Lal has represented Pakistan on global medical platforms across more than 50 countries, including Italy, France, the UK, Singapore, and Mauritius. A man of diverse leadership, he also serves as the President of the Osteoporosis Society and continues to work as an active social reformer.

Healing, Politics, and Purpose

For Dr. Lal, healing extends beyond medicine into the realm of social governance. Reflecting on his civic engagement, he shares a compelling perspective on political awareness:

“Do not distance yourself from politics, or those least equipped will rise to rule over you. Politics is not merely about power or opposition—it is the art of mutual understanding, crisis management, and building peace. Even a doctor’s devoted service to society is a form of civic leadership.”

Resilience Through Tragedy

Great leaders are often tested through profound adversity. On August 8, 2016, Dr. Lal and his family suffered an irreplaceable loss when his beloved relative, Shaheed Baaz Muhammad Kakar, was martyred in the tragic Quetta attack. The overwhelming grief shook the family to its core, yet through faith, community support, and sheer fortitude, Dr. Lal channeled his sorrow into renewed dedication to his nation.

When asked about his ultimate source of inspiration, Dr. Lal recalls a profound spiritual awakening during Hajj in Makkah. Understanding the true depth of his faith, he adopted the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as his ultimate benchmark for leadership, humility, and service.
