Debate, in its truest essence, is more than an exchange of opposing views; it is an ancient art form that breathes life into ideas. From the democratic assemblies of Ancient Greece to the intellectual salons of 18th-century Europe, public speaking has shaped destinies. In modern Balochistan, that legacy finds a powerful young torchbearer in Ammad Shakeel—a master orator whose journey is defined not just by eloquence, but by an extraordinary triumph over mortality.

A Childhood Interrupted

Born on January 21, 1992, in the picturesque valley of Quetta, Ammad was drawn to the power of the spoken word from an early age. Inspired by a close childhood friend who possessed a gift for speech, Ammad dreamed of taking the stage.

However, at just nine years old, life confronted him with an ordeal far beyond his years: a diagnosis of cancer.

As his family navigated the harrowing reality of the illness, Ammad was admitted to the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital. It was within those hospital walls, amidst aggressive treatments and uncertain days, that his indomitable spirit shone through. There, a young Ammad delivered his very first formal speech in front of Imran Khan—a moment that solidified his relationship with the microphone. Through unwavering faith, medical expertise, and sheer willpower, Ammad fought the disease and emerged completely cured.

The Unstoppable Ascent

Returning to health with renewed purpose, Ammad transformed his childhood passion into an unstoppable competitive career. In the 8th grade, he claimed 1st Position in the All-Balochistan School Debate Competition. By the time he reached General Musa College, he was consistently dominating college-level podiums.

Ammad’s academic path led him from a Bachelor’s in Business Administration (BBA) at Alhamd Islamic University to a Master of Science (MS) at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML). Along the way, he expanded his repertoire, mastering the art of satirical and humorous speeches alongside parliamentary debate.

His competitive track record across Pakistan became legendary:

• All-Pakistan Universities Speech Competition (HEC): Out of 194 participating universities, Ammad reached the Top 15, advancing to the national finals in Islamabad where he secured 1st Position along with a prestigious Rs. 100,000 cash prize awarded by Wali-ur-Rehman.
• All-Balochistan Universities Speech Competition: Secured 1st Position and a Rs. 50,000 cash award presented by Commander Southern Command Lt. Gen. Nasir Janjua.
• Lahore School of Economics (LSE) All-Pakistan Competition: Awarded 3rd Position.
• Forman Christian College (FCC) Lahore: Awarded 2nd Position.
• Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Academy Speech Contest: Reached the Top 4.
• UET Lahore Parliamentary Debates: Reached the Top 4.

Leadership and Versatility

Ammad’s talent naturally translated into organizational leadership. He served as the President of the Pakistan Debating Society from 2013 to 2015, and later headed the Youth Debating Society in 2015, mentoring scores of aspiring young speakers across the province.

Demonstrating remarkable versatility, Ammad also earned a 2nd Position award in a regional Drama Competition and secured 2nd Position in a Quetta-wide Business Idea Competition, proving that his analytical mind matches his eloquence.

Vision for the Future

An avid reader, column analyst, and cricket enthusiast, Ammad draws literary and professional inspiration from renowned satirist Anwar Masood and prominent investigative journalist Iqrar-ul-Hassan. Driven by a passion for truth and public discourse, his ultimate ambition is to become an honest, high-caliber news anchor and television host.
