Driving Social Reform: The Inspiring Journey of Naseem Khan Achakzai

Social activism is defined by the relentless drive to challenge the status quo—to intervene, reform, and rebuild social, economic, and political frameworks for the greater good. In this feature, Balochistan Stars spotlights a young visionary whose passion and strategic thinking are shaping a new paradigm for social change: Mr. Naseem Khan Achakzai.

Hailing from the scenic valley of Killa Abdullah near Chaman, Naseem’s journey is anchored in both academic excellence and grassroots action. He completed his O & A Levels in Quetta before earning a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a Master’s in Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Management and Technology (UMT). To further deepen his expertise in social development, he pursued an MSc in Poverty Reduction through the Commonwealth program at the University of London.

Naseem’s entry into social development began on the ground as a volunteer during major flood relief operations in Pakistan. That firsthand field experience sparked a lifelong commitment to humanitarian work in some of the country’s most remote and underserved regions. His dedication quickly translated into professional recognition and competitive scholarships, equipping him with advanced leadership and policy tools.

By 2011, at an extraordinarily young age, Naseem was appointed Director of Operations at Comprehensive Disaster Response Services (CDRS), leading a cross-functional team of 60 professionals. Building on this momentum, he went on to found HILA (meaning “Hope” in Pashto), an organization dedicated to community upliftment and youth engagement.

His leadership extended well beyond national borders:

• South Asian Youth Conference: In 2012, Naseem initiated this regional platform in Pakistan, which grew to host its landmark 7th edition in Kabul, Afghanistan.
• CSRP (Center for Strategy and Regional Peace): He founded Pakistan’s first youth-led think tank at the University of Lahore, focused on driving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through strategic youth participation.

Representing Pakistan on global stages, Naseem has been an invited delegate at international conferences across Brazil, Poland, China, the UAE, and Afghanistan. His thought leadership also extends to print media, where his analytical articles are regularly published in Daily Times.

His contributions have been recognized with numerous honors, including the Hope of Future Award (2011), the Young Achiever Award, and the Academic High Achiever Award.

Drawing inspiration from revolutionary figures like Che Guevara, Naseem balances his demanding career with a passion for playing volleyball. His overarching mission is to mentor and mobilize a core network of 100 dedicated young leaders who will champion women’s empowerment and drive sustainable progress across Pakistan.

Leaving an inspiring thought for the upcoming generation, Naseem shares:
