Masooma’s academic path took a sharp and demanding turn during her intermediate years. At just 15 and 16 years of age, while still navigating her FSC studies, she faced the devastating loss of both parents. As the eldest sibling, the profound responsibility of raising, nurturing, and educating her younger brothers and sisters fell squarely upon her shoulders.

With household stability and financial independence becoming an immediate priority, her formal, regular education had to take a backseat. Undeterred, she continued her academic pursuit independently, completing both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees privately through the University of Balochistan—all while managing professional roles to sustain her family.

Breaking Into the Realm of Civil Services

The idea of attempting the Central Superior Services (CSS) examination came later, in 2018. Coming from a modest academic background without access to high-end preparatory academies in major metropolitan hubs like Lahore or Islamabad, the mountain seemed too steep to climb. Many advised her that clearing the exam without moving outside the province was nearly impossible.

Yet, bound by limited resources and anchored by familial responsibilities, Masooma chose self-study. Relying entirely on her own discipline, a single chosen mentor for initial guidance, and sheer grit, she dedicated three intense years to mastering the syllabus. Working professional jobs simultaneously—including roles with the Polio Eradication Program, World Bank monitoring initiatives, and the Benazir Nashuma Program—she balanced office duties with relentless late-night study.

When the final results were announced, her hard work bore fruit: she successfully qualified the CSS examination and was allocated to the Postal Service Group, transforming her trials into a historic triumph.
