Canvas of Kalat: How Abdul Wahab Reimagined Art as a Profession in Balochistan

Art is the rare practice of capturing imagination, nature, and emotion on a surface through color and form. But when cultural heritage weaves itself into that canvas, art transcends decoration and becomes a profound profession. Today, Balochistan Stars brings you the inspiring journey of a visionary who transformed his passion into a lifelong mission: Abdul Wahab.

Hailing from Kalat—a historic land famed for its rich heritage and legendary figures—Wahab’s journey began with a deep appreciation for his roots. After completing his intermediate studies in Kalat, his pursuit of higher education brought him to Quetta, where he spent 2003 to 2007 refining his craft at the University of Balochistan. Driven by a desire to prove the immense potential of his home province, he moved to Punjab for his Master’s degree (2009–2010). Even before completing his postgraduate studies, his professional path took off when he led a key artistic project for the Jashn-e-Baharan initiative under NAB.

Upon returning, Wahab briefly served as a lecturer at the University of Balochistan before bringing his expertise to BUITEMS, where he found a permanent home to nurture young creative minds.

Behind his academic and artistic success lies a story of unconditional family support. Though his parents had limited access to formal schooling, they recognized the transformative power of education and encouraged Wahab and his siblings to pursue their dreams. Supporting a career path that was largely unconventional at the time, their belief and prayers laid the foundation for his success—culminating in his prestigious nomination for the Balochistan Excellence Award.

Today, Wahab’s contributions are recognized nationwide. Frequently invited as a judge for high-level art and painting competitions, his original artwork adorns the halls of BUITEMS, the University of Balochistan, NAB, and numerous corporate and public sector spaces.

Yet, his grandest vision is not merely about personal accolades. Wahab aims to train a new generation of skilled artists across Balochistan—visionaries who will gain international recognition just as world-class doctors or engineers do through their innovations.

Offering a refreshing perspective to today’s youth, Wahab shares:

“Our young people should feel empowered to explore every field rather than limiting themselves to medical or engineering tracks. We must show the world that given the opportunity, there is no domain where our talent cannot excel.”
