The Catalyst: The 2008 Ziarat Earthquake

Every lifelong mission has a defining moment. For Saboor, that turning point arrived in 2008, when a devastating earthquake struck the Ziarat region.

Witnessing the destruction and the immediate relief efforts of humanitarian workers ignited something profound within him. At just a young age, he formally stepped onto the frontlines of humanitarian action by signing up as a registered volunteer with the Pakistan Red Crescent. What began as emergency disaster relief quickly evolved into a lifelong crusade for social justice.

Overcoming Barriers: The Struggle Against the Current

The path of social reform is rarely smooth. As Saboor expanded his community work across Balochistan and Pakistan, he encountered deep-seated challenges: rigid cultural resistance, institutional apathy, and systemic corruption.

Where others saw insurmountable walls, Saboor saw opportunities for institutional growth and civic engagement. Refusing to let cynicism stall his momentum, he used these structural obstacles to refine his leadership skills and deepen his resolve.

A Global Footprint: Leadership and Advocacy

Over the past decade, Saboor’s work has spanned vital social causes, including disaster management, youth leadership, gender equality, violence prevention against women, education reform, and poverty alleviation.

His institutional leadership and advisory roles include:

• Pakistan National Youth Council: Served 2 years as a key leader.
• Youth Parliament Pakistan: Appointed as Vice President.
• South Asian Coordination & Asia Pacific Youth Network: Served as a strategic Focal Person representing regional youth interest.
• Civic & Educational Reform: Collaborated on national advocacy campaigns with Khudi Pakistan and Alif Ailaan.
• International Gender Advocacy: Worked for 2 years with the Kitakyushu Forum on Asian Women in Japan.

Saboor’s tireless work on the ground has earned him prestigious international and national honors. Most notably, he holds the distinction of being the first Pakistani to receive the World Top Ten Volunteer Award.
