A journalist is a person who collects, writes, or distributes news or other current information to the public. A journalist’s work is called journalism. A journalist can work with general issues or specialize in certain issues. However, most journalists tend to specialize, and by cooperating with other journalists, produce journals that span many topics. Today Balochistan Stars is going to introduce you to Mr. Yousaf Ajab Baloch an award winning journalist and trainer. Mr. Yousaf born in Balochistan’s beautiful village of Harboi, a village closes to the historic city of Kalat. He holds a Master’s degree in International Relations and Brahvi literature. Mr. Yousaf completed his short-term Educational Program in Journalism in 2009, from Allama Iqbal Open University. Currently he is M.Phil student at University of Balochistan (UOB).
He started writing for children when he was 6th grade student. Prior to English Journalism Mr. Yousaf contributed to editorial pages of Daily Azadi Quetta and Daily Asaap Quetta in Urdu language and wrote a weekly column “QeqanNama”, focusing Baluchistan’s social and political issues. His contributions have been published in Daily Jung, Daily Mashriq, Daily Awam and Daily Intekhab. He also has the honor of being author of three books in English and Brahvi languages. He worked as a reporter and Sub-Editor at English magazine monthly Bolan Voice in 2009 and 2010.He regularly contributed to Balochistan’s first online newspaper The Baloch Hal. Mr. Yousaf has contributed articles and opinion pieces in editorial pages of Daily Times, Daily Balochistan Express and View Point Online.
Instead of all these Mr. Yousaf is a Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Balochistan Point launched on October 16, 2010. He has honor to receive two prestigious awards in 2017 1) Agahi Award 2017 as the best journalists of the year 2017 in category of Anti-corruption. 2) The Centre for Excellence in Journalism at the Institute of Business Administration (CEJ-IBA) Karachi and Center for Communication Programs Pakistan (CCPP) honored Mr. Yousaf the Excellence in Journalism Award “Lab Azad” in rights based reporting. “I am striving to become voice of the voiceless through my journalism; as well I want to serve in communities through my social and educational activities”. Mr. Yousaf had won a Pakistan based competitive internship and visited USA in 2013 as part of PK-US Journalists Partnership Program and he worked with The Arizona Republic as Intern in Arizona.
This should be known that Ajab along with his friends is leading Human Prosperity Organization (HPO) and HPO Technical & Educational Center (HPO Tec) in Balochistan. He has been working for youth and women empowerment for more than a decade. They have conducted many technical and educational training programs for male and female. Ajab is director of Phoenix Public School Kalat, a Kalat based school, along with other pupils more than two dozen poor students are also being educated free on special quota for poor students. Ajab has great experience of working with national and international organizations in health, development, technical education and gender equity.
Mr. Yousaf’s message for youth is: “As we live in a very backward area and there are fewer opportunities for youth to emerge as change agent, however, youth should study and obtain professional degrees and move towards higher education so that we could have educational society. The motive behind pursuing degrees should not be just for a job or so called statuesque, as it has become trend these days”.
